Happy birthday to meeeeeeee...

Not saying good-bye to my imaginary friends.
Turning the second big number.
I'm shiny. I shine.
I bleed fireflies and turtlejoy.

Not today, Mr. Collins!

Now I'm waiting for the guy to clean the condo and it's already forty minutes after one gee. Back in Manila and then tomorrow Cebu. Cannot stay put. Look to the left. But Cinderella last night was very nice.

Today I thought I lost my JR Line 1-month pass. Found it inside one of the washing machines upstairs. Sigh of sighs! I could have been spending 440 yen everyday for the rest of this month.

I've been updating my Multiply account (bananaqueue.multiply.com) more, so I suggest you go over there if you have nothing better to do or if you want to see how the Japanese nation has done a fantastic job, feeding me.

Had our first Japanese Language class today and it was fine considering that I slept at about 2 a.m. to master as many characters as I could.

Prophesied an afternoon of mild brain death. Then resurrected after my "Japan and the Asia-Pacific in Modern Times" class because I was looking for soy milk in the vending machine, but got a Yakult-like drink instead.

Three things made my day: 1.) Yakult-like drinky-drink, 2.) The bus shaped like a dog (with tongue) filled with smother-worthy school children, and; 2.) an e-mail from Kozo:

Hi, Nikki,Nina!

Are you enjoying Japanese chocolate?
I told Chiroruchoco yesterday.
There were many kind of Chiroruchoco.

http://www.tirol-choco.com/collection.html

http://www.tirol-choco.com/info.html

A staff Kono and I recommend it!!
Please try it and enjoy your chocolate life!!

I just saw someone down a whole packet of nori strips for breakfast, and suddenly I felt a happy kind of joy. Multiply is taking a long-o time to upload and I have nothing better to do, by choice. Or irresponsibility.

It's 9:01 am and not so cold anymore. Last night's walk from Kyushu University to the train station proved to be glacial (both pace and temperature.) Now the sun is out and its loveliness even distracted me from the petri-of-a-platter, moisture-celibate, flavor-challenged chicken that I managed to finish anyway.

I have an hour and forty-five minutes to take a bath, get dressed and recover from last night's Hiragana session with my trusty white board. Yesterday we had our Japanese placement test and the first thing that came to mind when I got my answer sheet was: "Oh shiz, where does my name go." Then the professor got a clue and plucked us from our seats, asked us to go to the lobby and announced, in Kung Fu Panda fashion, that there was indeed a level zero.

First day of ATW and I'm beat. Levinas, you continue to inspire me. And tofu. And miso soup. And that chicken dish I had for lunch in the Kyushu University cafeteria.

Will write after I digest everything.

Am in Mactan Domestic Airport, about to board ze plane. Karen just gave one of the best send-offs in Nikay history. First, Karen and Monik. And then Julian came. And then we had drinks in the pricey cafe. Imagine, an 12-peso 18.50-peso banana. Hugs and kisses. Epic, since i'm not, like, a huggy person.

I'll be in Manila for a few days. Leaving for Fukuoka on Sunday.

"Your heart is like a great river after a long spell of rain, full to the banks. All signposts that once stood on the ground are gone, inundated and carried away by that rush of water. And still the rain beats down on the surface of the river. Every time you see a flood like that on the news you tell yourself: That's it. That's my heart."

Urduja was an immense disappointment. Photo not shown below.

You think you own whatever land, Yolando? Methinks it's back to the drawing board (ay, literal!) for Team PH-Mainstream.

NOT

Mama, snot-heavy after an MRT ride, is back from Manila. Lunch at Wakamatsu Yakiniku and not the usual Little Nonki (oh reliable satisfier of profound Japanese food cravings, forgive us).

And I stole her copy of Beckett's Dream of Fair to middling Women. Hee.

A text message from Gorm: "...unsa kaha'g, pakan-on ka'g one spoon of pawikan pero mukanta ka sa Broadway as Elphie." (Would you eat turtle meat in exchange for playing Elphaba on Broadway?)

I just finished watching a local documentary about the Ahas-Pagong. They're soft-shelled turtles with really long necks, and they like to freeload on farmer's crops. Hence, pulutan. Article here.

We used to keep one in our garden. Gorm and Papa brought it home following a river trek in Barangay Bonbon (name's fo realz). Don't know how he/she died:

Lovely thing. Never shall I down you with my RHB. Witch's honor.
